Grow Annapolis had a wonderful time at the Growing Communities Workshop put on by the American Community Garden Association (ACGA) and hosted by the Master Gardeners of the Virginia Cooperative Extension in Arlington this past weekend. We left encouraged and inspired.
For two days we had the chance to explore topics such as community organizing, leadership development, grassroots fundraising, communications planning, coalition building, meeting facilitation, gardens management and Asset-Based Community Development. We also met many new friends from as far as Boston, MA and TX and where inspired by how they were growing communities around healthy, locally sourced food initiatives and community gardens. A lot of great ideas were exchanged and we are excited to start implementing some of what we learned about growing community back hear in the Annapolis area.
